Top 10 Tuesday: Series I'd Like To Start But Haven't (Yet)

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
Once again, we're given a topic for TTT that makes me groan. Don't get me wrong, it's a great topic. But my to-be-read list on Goodreads is overburdened, and I'm already hounded by guilt over series ignored. There are so many amazing books and series in the world that I want to read! Unfortunately, I'm restrained by little things like work, my body's desire to sleep, etc. At least the ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish were kind enough to narrow it down to series for us instead of individual books.

Here is my list, as organized by author:
Book #1
The Everneath series by Brodi Ashton. Underworld books can be very hit or miss for me. However, after the release of the second book (Everbound), it seemed like everyone was in love with the series. Also, my sister Sunny checked out the first book from the library, and it's currently sitting across from me and making come-hither eyes.

Attribution
The Mediator series by Meg Cabot. I know I'm a little slow jumping on the Meg Cabot bandwagon. I didn't even read The Princess Diaries until last fall. (I loved it, by the way.) My best friend in high school was obsessed with The Mediator series, but I never bothered to pick it up. I should probably rectify my error, but not until I finish The Princess Diaries series. Princesses trump ghosts.

Attribution
The Unearthly series by Cynthia Hand. I do not like angel books. DO. NOT. LIKE. Usually I back away from angel books as one might a nest of rattlesnakes. However, the third book just came out, and Twitter was all aflutter. Bloggers I respect and admire were gushing over this series. Wendy freaking Darling liked this series, and if Wendy freaking Darling likes something, I at least should give it a chance. [Update: Radiant Shadows is giving me the first two books! Holla! I'm so excited to start reading.]

Attriubtion
The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. I'm also not a fan of faeries. Not that they're as bad as angels, mind you, but I haven't had much luck in the fey genre. That said, The Iron Fey series popped up multiple times in the TTT week about romantic couples, so I think it's worth a look.

Attribution
The Delirium series by Lauren Oliver. Oh my word, Twitter has been overrun with flailing over Requiem, the last book in the series. It seems like everyone is going gaga in anticipation. Personally, I never could keep this series separate in my head from the Chemical Garden series. (I haven't read that series either.) I have the first CG book on my shelf waiting to be read, so I put the Delirium series on my list so it would have its own push.

Attribution
The Anna, Lola, Isla books by Stephanie Perkins. I cheated a bit on this one. Technically, Ms. Perkins' books don't form a cohesive series, per se. However, I've been told that characters frequently pop into other books, which means they're all in the same literary universe, which means I feel justified counting them as companion novels and therefore sort of series-ish. Also, they're cute and I want to read them, so they're going on the list.

Attribution
The Across the Universe series by Beth Revis. Every time I hear about this series, I become hungrier for it. It has romance, intrigue, betrayal, adventure, and it's set IN SPACE! Do you all have any idea how few quality YA novels are set not just in the future but IN SPACE?! Want. Want want want. [Update: I won a copy of Shades of Earth (the final book) from Christina at A Reader of Fictions, so this series just got bumped to the top of the list. Woot!]

Attribution
The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. No, I haven't read Harry Potter. Thanks to pop culture and the internet, I know the basic plot and ending of the series, but I haven't read a single line of the books themselves. I'm sure when I do get around to it, I'll be completely enraptured, but I'm in no hurry. Either someone will give me the first book, or I'll find it in a thrift store somewhere and buy it cheaply. Until then, I'll enjoy my other books.

Attribution
The Study series by Maria V. Snyder. This one's another series that people won't shut up about, but it hits me in the chink in my armor: poisons. I love poisons, and I love books about food testers who are poisoned. Some of my closest blogger friends adore Maria Snyder, so I'm anxious to read this series... eventually. (I really should work on my scheduling.)

Book #1
The Lion Hunters series by Elizabeth Wein. This is the series I'll probably get to soonest of all, once I have the money to buy it. First, it's written by Elizabeth Wein, the evil genius responsible for Code Name Verity. Second, it's been touted by Chachic and other trusted Sounisians, and if a Sounisian tells you to read a book, you read it. Third, part of the series is set in Arthurian England and another part is set in Africa, which is AWESOME. Fourth, I've been told there's a very Gen-like character named Telemakos, whom I must meet post haste. Please picture me making grabby hands.

~~*~~

I know I won't be getting to any of these series right away, and when I do, there's no guarantee that I'll be enthralled with all of them. Still, what's life without a little risk? I trust my fellow bloggers, so when they say "X series is AMAAAAAZING!" that I should at least pay attention. Hopefully, I'll be able to snag some of these at the library soonish.

What about you? What series would you like to start?

  1. I need to finish The Unearthly series by Cynthia Hand, but I really liked the first two books. The Iron Few, Harry Potter, Poison Study and Across the Universe are all fabulous!!! The Delirium series is on my list as well!

  2. Amazing list. You MUST MUST MUST read Harry Potter! I was thinking I was going to do a re-read this year. They're amazing books. Poison Study is an amazing book too, I love Maria V Snyder. I'm aiming to read the second book Magic Study sometime this month. The Iron Fey, Delirium and Across the Universe are all on my list too, they look so good! Great list hope you get around to some of these soon :)

  4. We have a couple in common! I also put Unearthly and Poison Study on my list, and I should have added Delirium. Oh, and I also used to mix it up with the Chemical Garden series in my head ;) I have the first book of that one on my shelf though, but haven't gotten to it yet. I put Meg Cabot on my list, but with another series.
Everneath, Anna/Lola and the Iron Fey series are great! If you want an absolutely amazing fairy book though, I can recommend Melissa Marr and Holly Black's novels!
There are so many great series and the fact that there is absolutely no way I will ever get to all of them in my lifetime makes me despair if I allow myself to think about it >.<

    Here's my list

I know exactly what you mean. I wish someone would pay me to read all day every day!

this is also about the 4th list i've seen iron fey on. i need to add that to my list.

  6. I loved The Study series, so hopefully you'll get to it soon :-) I still have to read the final book in the Across the Universe series, but I've loved it so far.

  7. The Stephanie Perkins books are a faux-series so in my book it counts too. I haven't read the meg cabot series too, and I've pretty much read all of her books.

  8. The Chemical Garden & Delirium are really so different -- if you get around to reading them, you won't mix them up anymore, even though the author names are so similar!

It kind of stinks that you already know a lot of what happens in Harry Potter -- the anticipation and speculation leading up to the publication of each of the later books as I was reading them was just insane! I can't imagine reading them for the first time already knowing a bit of how things turn out. I still highly recommend them though :)

    1. I think it's just because they both came out at the same time, they're both dystopian, and I didn't like the covers of either. Given the hullabaloo over REQUIEM, I think I'll start with WITHER first.

Oh yeah, I know tons. I know who dies. I know who ends up with whom.

      Delete
    2. Wither is my favorite of the Chemical Garden series -- I hope you like it :) Personally, I liked the cover for that one, but I'm not so much a fan of the sequel covers.

And I liked the original Delirium cover better -- I'm very meh about the giant faces. Love what's between the covers though!

      Delete
    3. Oh man, I can't even remember the original Delirium covers anymore. That's so sad.

      Delete
    4. It was only the first one -- it was mostly blue and there was a girl's face, but you could only partially see it through the lettering: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9462883-delirium

Of the choices, I wish they kept with that theme!

  9. YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON SO MANY GOOD SERIES. Read Everneath. Now. At least for my sake because I think that's my favorite series ever and yes Everbound is AMAZING and even better than Everneath so after you read the first one you have to read the second whether you liked Everneath or not. :) I would reccommend the Delirium series as well even though I hated the last book. I should totally gift you the HP series at one point. I was a little obsessive when I was younger and now I own three copies of all the books.

    1. Ha! I promise, I'll get around to Everneath eventually. I really do want to read them, but I need to wait until I have free time.

And I would definitely not refuse an HP gift. ;-)

  10. I really need to read the Lion Hunters books too. My library only has the firs two and some of them are out of print which makes this difficult.

I've been warned off a lot of these series by several people I trust so I haven't read many of your choices this week. (Just HP and Stephanie Perkins.) I did read Poison Study but haven't read the rest of the series.

  13. Great list! I'm pretty angel- and fairy-averse these days, so I can relate! OK, but you've never read Harry Potter?? If I knew you in person rather than just online, I'd put a copy in your hands tomorrow! I didn't know about the Elizabeth Wein series. Code Name Verity just killed me, must check these out. And I still have to read the Study books too.

  15. You haven't read Harry Potter????? BLASPHEMY!!!! Just kidding. I'm that one person who hasn't seen Star Wars, so I can't talk about missing nerd mile-stones. But seriously. Read it. I practically lived at Hogwarts for ten years of my life.

I seriously love your list. Everneath is amazing, Unearthly is a really, really good angel book (most of them do suck, I'll give you that), and I'm dying to read Delirium. I only read the first of The Iron Fey series, but it's gotten a lot of really positive hype. Anna And The French Kiss is like the most romantic date in book form. So yeah, I'm seriously loving your list, and you're in for some seriously awesome reading.

Thanks for following my blog! I returned the favor, and I'm glad I did, because your blog looks awesome. :)

  17. Thanks for visiting my blog! Since you're angel-opposed, I'll be curious to know what you think of the Unearthly series. I loved the first one, thought the second was pretty weak, but it finished strong.

The Everneath series is different and very imaginative.

I still need to read both of the Stephanie Perkins books. I went to an event with her and Maureen Johnson last week and bought signed copies of both. I plan to do a giveaway soon, so check back in. :)

  18. Okay lots of good ones here! LOVE the Study series, though the first book is definitely the best (I think she's writing more of them too, yay!). Everneath and Iron Fey are also fantastic. I'm not even going to comment on Harry Potter... I enjoyed the Unearthly series overall, and I've decided not to finish the Delirium series. I cannot wait for Isla! And the Mediator Series and Across the Universe are also on my TBR. Thanks for stopping by my TTT!

I definitely need to the Delirium series and the Across the Universe series. I've heard raves about both and figure with both completed, it's about time!

I would love to start the Poison Study and the Delirium series, I would've added them to my list but it was already too long.

    Great list!

  23. Fantastic list! I haven't delved into fey territory yet, but I may try The Iron King. (And I can't help but be reminded of Fringe's Olivia Dunham. Thank you, Iron King book cover.) Oh, and Harry Potter! I probably shouldn't feel surprised by how many lists it's showing up on today, but I hope you enjoy it all the same. I never finished the last HP book myself, so I started to re-read the series this week.

  24. I'm reading the Delirium series now, thought Across the Universe (only read first two) was okay, and I really like The Mediator series--it's super fun! Oh, and YOU HAVEN'T READ STEPHANIE PERKINS?! What are you doing with your life? Whatever it is, stop and at least read Anna and the French Kiss right now! And thanks for sharing and stopping by!

  25. There's some seriously awesome books on there! I loved Everneath so much, but guys are great. Also, the Unearthly trilogy is one of my favorite series ever :) Anna and Lola are both so sweet and funny, too. I also really want to read the Across The Universe series. Great picks!

  26. I hate Angel books too. The Unearthly series was pretty good and my eye rolling was kept to a minimum. The last book had me banging my head a bit.

I know what you mean about Underworld books (liked the Abandon series, HATED the Goddess Test series), but Everneath felt different to me. It has so much...atmosphere, if that make since.

I generally don't like contemporary YA romance, but even my cold unfeeling heart was melted by Anna and the French Kiss.

Delirium was a good series, but the last book left me scratching my head.

    Great list! Good luck!

    Thanks for stopping by!

  28. SHELVER, you need to read these right now. Like, go read The Mediator immediately, because it is (imho) Meg Cabot's best series. Love, love, love is what I feel for that series.

Everneath is awesome, and you should give in to the temptation of those come-hither eyes.

Awww, Radiant Shadows's so sweet to send you the Unearthly books!

Honestly, I didn't like The Iron Fey and I'm scared of Requiem now, which seems to have let a lot of people down...

Woo! Now you have to read Across the Universe.

Oh, also, I can't imagine that you would not love Maria V. Snyder, since you're such a big LaFevers fan!

    1. Haha, I love your play-by-play reactions!

I'm zipping through TPD on audiobook right now, so Mediator will be next.

Everneath, sadly, went back to the library, but I might rescue it soon.

      Isn't she, though?!

Yeah, same here. Everyone freaked about Reqiuem in a way I haven't witnessed since Mockingjay.

      Yes!

I know I'll love her. It's just a matter of having time to read her to love her.

  29. Okay. You need to drop what you're doing ASAP and read the Harry Potter books. Like, right now. I admit, I initially settled for watching the movies but as good as they were, they pale in comparison to the book series. TRUST ME on this one. You won't regret it.

I've heard great things about Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series but I'm just not sure about fairy lore. I think the Sookie Stackhouse books ruined it for me. Maybe one day I'll give it a whirl. I am SUPER excited for both the Delirium and Unearthly series though. Great picks, lady!

  30. I have the first two Iron Fey books, and I plan to AT LEAST read the first one this year, same with the Unearthly series. I've been meaning to read those books for FOREVER.

  31. Great list! Read the Harry Potter books. Really. They are amazing. (I'll read the Queen's Thief books if you'll read Harry Potter! Deal?)

And how on earth did I forget the Study series? I've had the first one sitting on my TBR shelves for... it's got to be at least two years now. I keep meaning to start them, then not remembering when I'm looking around for something to read. Serves me right for sticking my TBR shelves in the basement. (What can I say? I ran out of room on the main floor.)

The Lion Hunter series has never even crossed my radar. I used to be incredibly into Arthurian retellings, but I drifted away from them for a while. Now I'm starting to feel the tiniest tugging back. These are definitely going on my list.

Enjoy reading these, whenever you get to them!

    1. I'd say deal, but that's so not a fair deal. There are only 4 Thief books so far! Books 5 and 6 aren't even written yet. And there are, what, 7 HPs? I'll read the first Harry Potter if you read the first TWO Thief books. :-P Because the second book is my favorite.

You have ACTUAL TBR shelves? I'm so jealous.

    2. I'm embarrassed to say, I do have a shelf. I mean a whole bookshelf unit, not a single shelf. It's the result of too many trips to the library book sale over the last few years... but how can I resist? At least I'm well-stocked for a prolonged siege, should such a thing occur. ;-)

And you have a deal. I will read the first two Queen's Thief books. I'll put book 2 on hold from the library, and start book 1 when I finish my current book. :-)

  33. So much overlap here that I can't help with a blow-by-blow account! Hope you don't mind!

Everneath isn't very original; no plans to read the series.

The Mediator series - OMG YES!!! (reminds me need to finish it)

Unearthly was better than Everneath; I might finish the series.

The IRON FEY. Another OMG YES!!! I read the whole series and will continue to read add on stories.

Haven't tried Delirium but it's on the list.

Have only gotten to Lola so far but plan to get to all of them.

Loved Across the Universe. Plan to get around to the rest of them (too many books, too little time!)

I never finished the Harry Potter series. Maybe someday. Loved the first book though.

Surprised I haven't heard of the Study series or the one by Wein... will have to check them out.

The series I'm most excited to finish after starting are the Temeraire series and the Abhorsen trilogy and the Bartimaeus set.
